Spring is in full swing and we are working our arses off! My musles protest and there isn’t enough time at night to sleep. Or rather, my body is not letting me enjoy my sleep. I keep waking up to early. 😦
We have lots to show for the aching backs and farmer tans we have acquired. We harvested over 700 seedlings planted by stray fallen cherries last fall. I bent up two shovels in the process. The hubby says I must be more careful. I think we should have stronger shovels.
The next day we planted all 700+ seedlings and now we will work to make them grow into strong little trees we will replant on out land next year. It probably seems crazy to go and put some serious work into digging up stray seedlings. But when they sell for more than $2.00 a pop and you need over a 1000. Digging them up literally saves over $2000 and takes two or three days. That seems like pretty good use of our time. 😉
Munchkin is working hard on language acquisition and confusing Baba with the mixed Serbian and English. This is gonna be a fun ride.Listening to her sing “twinkle twinkle” and just repeat those two words while standing on the porch looking up at the sky. Then in her sweet little dual language baby talk she says, “Zvezda Moon!” Zvezda means star in Serbian.
Munchkin wants to learn how to play jump rope really bad.
New words surprise me all the time. The shock and pride never end.
I wish I had more energy, but I am just spent on account of all that manual labor. A picture packed post is the result. Enjoy.

our 19 month old is learning dual serbian/english right now too, and we’re experiencing similar mixing of words. Except it’s ME that gets confused, not Baba (we just skype with her every day). When my daughter started calling elephants “Lon” we realized it was short for Slon. Now everyone who hears “Lon” has no idea what she’s saying here!
By the way, did you experience a talking delay at all with her learning two languages?
I don’t think she was very delayed. We have friends whose little girl is a month older, but has an older sister and that speeds things up. We have another friend who had a girl a month younger than Munchkin and she isn’t talking much at all. I thought it may take her longer. But now she is learning so fast. Millie likes slons too. and she has a koala bear that confuses her because the nose is strange. She calls it Teddy slon. LOL

We had a few really sunny days about a week ago and I was outside with my shovel all day, too. I was totally exhausted at the end of the day, but it was a “good” exhausted – it felt like we’d achieved something. I think planting out those seedlings is a great idea. Keep a few for yourself and make cherry wine – yum! Sleep well!

Hey, I am trying to help some English teachers here who have had some trouble concerning an English competition here. One of the issues was the use of the word fable as the root for the word fabulous. I never knew they were connected til now. Is that news to you? I know it is not a normal use in American English. It seems as if the test was written unfairly to trick the students, and maybe have been given to some in advance to peruse. I am going to write to them after I look into it more and get answers from you and other UK English speakers in case it is just my poor American English. Thanks in advance!

“Fable” is the etymological root of the word “fabulous” in British English (the origins are first Latin, then French) : http://www.oed.com/view/Entry/67418?redirectedFrom=fabulous#eid
Having said that, whether the question was fair or not depends if it was used correctly by the examiners in the first place. Hence my request for context.
If some students were given a head start in the test, it is totally unfair, and should be reprogrammed.
